British tenor Ben Johnson recently made his English National Opera debut as Nemorino in The Elixir of Love to critical acclaim. Reviewing for the Guardian, Tim Ashley writes, "He makes a tremendous impression. There's a supple ease to his voice and a stylish elegance to his phrasing". In September 2010, Johnson joined the prestigious Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme. Japanese soprano Eri Nakamura shot to prominence when she stepped in to replace Anna Netrebko at the Royal Opera House as Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi conducted by Sir Mark Elder. From 2008-2010 Nakamura was a member of the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme. She recently returned to the venue to sing the role of Sophie in Werther under Antonio Pappano.
